Why We Created a Candle Refill Programme — And Why It Matters

Susan O' Riordan

At Melt Therapy, we believe that luxury and sustainability aren't opposites — they belong together. That's why we created our candle refill programme: so you can keep the vessel you love and simply refresh the wax when it's done.

It's a small change with a meaningful impact.

The Problem With Single-Use Candles

Most candles come in beautiful containers — and then what? Once the wax is gone, the jar often ends up in the bin. Glass and ceramic vessels take significant energy to produce, and disposing of them after a single use feels at odds with how many of us want to live now.

We wanted to offer something better.

How Our Refill Programme Works

It couldn't be simpler:

  1. Burn your Melt Therapy candle until the wax is finished
  2. Clean out the vessel (we'll share tips for this below)
  3. Order your refill — same scent or try something new
  4. Pour, set, and enjoy

Your vessel stays. Your ritual continues. Less waste, same luxury.

How to clean your vessel:

Once the candle is burned down, place the jar in the freezer for an hour. Any remaining wax will shrink and pop out easily. Wipe clean with a cloth and warm soapy water — and it's ready for its next life.

Why Natural Wax Makes a Difference

Our refills use the same natural coconut rapeseed wax blend as our original candles. It burns cleaner than paraffin, produces less soot, and is better for indoor air quality — something worth considering when you're lighting a candle to relax and unwind.

It's also biodegradable, which means even the wax itself treads more lightly.

The Scents You Love, Refillable

Whether you're devoted to the bright clarity of Úr, the grounding warmth of Fáilte, or the deep calm of Ciúnas, your favourite scent is available as a refill. It's also the perfect opportunity to try something new without committing to a whole new vessel.

A Note From Us

We're a small, Cork-based studio and every candle is made with care. The refill programme isn't a marketing exercise — it's genuinely how we think a candle brand should operate in 2026. We're proud of it, and we hope you love it as much as we do.
